Update an order’s properties and instructions

Before you start

You need access to Orders and permission to edit the order. Confirm that the requested change is approved for the work being produced, especially if work has already started.

This example changes the note and first Wire Drawing instruction on order 100367 for Summit Precision Springs. Another order, 100368, uses the same part and retains the original instruction.

Update an order note

Open the order and confirm its number, Account, and Part. In the Properties panel, find Notes below Description and click its text. Enter the revised wording, then click outside the field to save. Wait for the normal text display to return.

In the example, Notes was changed to: “25 lb net per spool. Include the final diameter report with the order paperwork.”

Edit a production-step instruction

1. Find the exact routing step

   Find Production Progress below Tasks, then locate the step to change. If a stage appears more than once, read the surrounding steps and its instruction to identify the correct occurrence.

   Here, the first Wire Drawing step draws .0200-inch stock to .0180-inch diameter. A later drawing step follows Annealing and draws to .0160-inch diameter.

2. Edit and save the instruction

   Click the instruction text. Replace it with the approved instruction, then select Save beneath that instruction box.

   The example adds a requirement to record diameter every 10 lb, as well as at startup and each spool change.

   

3. Reopen and confirm the change

   Reopen the order and read both Notes and the changed step instruction. Confirm the correct order and routing occurrence before continuing work.

   

What this changes

The instruction edited here belongs to this order’s production-step copy. In the example, reopening part C110-RD-0160 and order 100368 showed the original startup-and-spool-change instruction. Neither acquired the added 10 lb interval.
